Detroit is the largest city in the US state of Michigan, and has many attractions that delight visitors. From world-class art and architecture museums to historic sites and attractions, here are the best places to visit in Detroit.

Detroit Institute of Art :


Detroit Institute of Art houses over 65,000 artworks
The Detroit Institute of Art presents a representative cross-section of human artistic creativity from the oldest cultures to the present day. Its permanent collection includes more than 65,000 artworks spread across more than 100 galleries. This includes parts of Africa, Oceania, and the Native Americas; Art of the Near East and Classical Antiquity; collections from medieval Europe; American Art and Culture.

Among the museums' most famous are masterpieces of European painting, including works by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Matisse, and Picasso. There is also an extensive collection of Islamic art with pottery, bronze, stone and other works spanning from ancient to modern and a gallery dedicated to African-American art, which includes a variety of media.

Detroit Zoo :


The Detroit Zoo occupies 125 acres just outside of downtown Detroit and is home to an astonishing number of animals from all over the world. The zoo is separated by habitat type, one of the most popular African habitats, which is home to exotic favourites such as rhinos, lions, zebras and giraffes, as well as the South American favorite sloth. Within this section is the four-acre monkey habitat, which includes dozens of chimpanzees and three gorillas.

The habitat of the Asian forest is home to camels, tigers, lemurs and red pandas, and there is an Australian habitat in the outback, where there are kangaroos. There are also wildlife areas in North America and the Arctic that have polar bears, arctic foxes, and many species of penguins. Visitors can also enjoy a quiet visit to the indoor butterfly garden.

A variety of animal encounters are available to visitors, including giraffe feeding, penguin encounters, and welcomes. The park also contains several playgrounds, a train ride, and a 4D theater.

Belle Isle :

Belle Isle is an island in the Detroit River, approximately three miles long and one mile wide, laid out with beautiful gardens, hiking trails, and sports facilities. One key feature is the Anna Scripps Whitcombe Conservatory, which opened in 1904 and features palm trees, cacti, desert plants, tropical plants, and a lily pond.
The site is also home to the Dussein Great Lakes Museum, which houses several ship models and other exhibits illustrating the history of shipping in the Great Lakes region.

Other attractions include the Belle Isle Nature Zoo, where visitors can feed deer, and the recently remodeled Belle Isle Aquarium. There are plenty of recreational opportunities on the island, including a driving range, bike and boat rentals, giant slides, and plenty of swimming holes and hiking trails in and around the park's three lakes.
